Student Visa
Student Visa is granted to foreign nationals who enters the country for academic purposes such as conducting Research, Internship, volunteering, exchange students, and prospective students who have obtained admission to registered Institutions in Tanzania.
Students expected to study in the United Republic of Tanzania will be issued with a student Visa. The following fees are charged for student Visa:-
- Students studying for a period not exceeding three (3) months shall be charged a fee of 50USD,
- A student studying for a period exceeding three (3) months shall be charged 250USD
NB:
- Applicants for a student visa exceeding 3 months should be of the age of 18 years and above. If the applicant is below 18 years old, then his parent or guardian must either be a Tanzanian citizen or hold a Residence Permit.
- Applicants whose countries do not require visas to enter Tanzania, and who wish to come for academic purposes will have to apply for a Student Pass.
- The validity of Visa for applicants who come for language courses will not exceed six months.
Requirements for Students Visa
- Copy of the applicant’s valid passport (biographic data page);
- Application fee.
- Covering letter from the host institution/college where the foreign student will be hosted, the letter must detail the course/field and duration of the program to be attended
- An open return ticket may be required in some cases.
Visa payment methods
Applicant can make payment of the visa fee online through one of the following methods:
- By Visa or By Master card;
- By Swift transfer (i.e. depositing money directly into the bank account at the bank counter).
After making the fee payment, the Applicant will receive a notification that his payment has been received. He/she will wait for Approval of a Visa before starting the journey.
- Visit the Immigration Services Website (immigration.go.tz)
- Click the “e-services” button;
- Select and click “e-Visa Application Form”;
- Upload and attach the applicant’s scanned relevant documents for the Visa;
- Then, the applicant will receive an e-mail message containing a User Identification Number (that may be used to track the application online);
- After completing of filling an online visa application form, the applicant will have to pay for a respective visa fee;
- Upon successful payment, the applicant will submit his application;
- Lastly, the applicant will receive a message of confirmation of his application being received.
- Student Pass
- Student Pass I
This is issued to persons studying in approved training establishments including children of persons legally residing in the country who are above the age of majority.
Specific Requirements for Student Pass ‘I’
- Certificate of registration of institution/school
- Evidence of sponsorship/scholarship
- Evidence of enrolment
- Admission letter
- Joining instructions
- Student Pass II
This is issued to children of persons legally residing in the country who are below the age of majority and have not been endorsed in their parents residence permits studying in approved training establishments including kindergarten, primary and secondary schools and other higher learning institutions.
Specific requirements for Student Pass ‘II’
- Admission letter
- Evidence of sponsorship/scholarship
- Parent consent if under a guardian
- Certified copy of a valid Resident Permit/Exemption Certificate/Dependent Pass of parent or guardian
- Certified copy of a birth certificates (child/parents)
- Certified copy of a passport of parent
- Residence Permit Class C
Residence Permit Class ‘C’ is issued to a foreigner who is not eligible to obtain either Class “A” or “B” permits. These include; researchers, retired persons, missionaries, former employees winding up affairs, individuals attending medical treatment, volunteers, interns, parties, and witnesses in a court of laws and tribunals, etc. The application must be made before the entry of the prospective applicant into Tanzania except for retired persons and those winding up affairs.
General Requirements for Class “C” Permit.
- Dully filled out the online application,
- Covering letter from institution
- Work Permit issued by Labor Commissioner (Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar), or Exemption letter from Relevant authority (For Missionaries, Volunteer and NGO employees),
- A Copy of the applicant’s Passport (With a validity of not less than six months),
- National Passport of dependents,
- Passport size photograph,
- Previous Original Class C permit (in case of renewal or replacement),
- Letter of No Objection for holders of resident permits shifting to new Institution,
- Current Immigration status of an applicant,
- Physical Verification Visit Report (PVV) where necessary*,
- Enrollment process,
- Any other document or requirement as may be directed during application.
